Into The Wild

My legs are covered in scratches, my body polka-dotted in bug bites, blankets and clothes embedded with the smell of campfire, car filthy as a pig, yet my soul is the happiest it has ever been. Yes right now I live the life of a working student spending 10 hours a day on campus, but that should not hold me back from making this the most memorable and best summer I have had in years.

And it hasn't :-)

Story about this weekend:
"Hilary what are you doing Friday night? And Saturday morning?" - AW
"Hmm, I think nothing. Why?" - me
"Ok, let's go to moab and camp there this weekend." - AW
"Do we have a tent and sleeping bags?" -me
"No..." - AW
"I'll ask someone for them. I'm down" -me
And that's all it took! 24 hours later we were headin down on the freeway with peach frescas in our hands, coon hats on our heads, and tunes blaring on the sound system. We played the memory game, where when we heard a song we had to say what memory we had connected with it. Super fun game, try it sometime.
We both thought about this same thing: why does everyone judge us for our adventures? We both had a same story about telling someone how we were adventuring there and they said "Why drive so far to be there for so little? That's so weird." no, YOU are weird! Stop judging us! For me, driving down is half the adventure. Heck, I got a tattoo on the way down, as did ash (no worries, we think they are fake).
Once at the park, we realized we didn't know how to get around there, where to camp, or even how to set up a tent. Oops. After searching, scrambling, and thinking, we ended up sleeping in my car in a parking lot. Pure awesomeness.
Here are just a few pictures of our adventure. I stole them all from AW, so she has more and better ones.
I woke her up at 5am to hike and watch the sunrise. For being one of the lease morning people I know, she was an awesome sport. That was the most fun Saturday morning ever spent with her!!!
I needed an adventure hat for all the great things I am doing this summer, so that is the story behind my amazing raccoon hat! Yes, I know you are jealous ;-)
I think this is the most amazing view of the delicate arch. Notice how narrow it stands on the side--incredible.

Besides seeing one of Utah's most amazing sights down south, I also fished, swam, and attended two bonfires this weekend. I think this summer, I have decided what my favorite things in the world are to do. Be outside.
